Audiology Has Evolved With Modern Hearing Aids, Which Have Multiple Features
They Can Be Adjusted With Bluetooth Apps In Smartphones, Listen In Noisy Environments, Receive Phone Calls, And Listen To Music
Audiology has traditionally been related to measuring the hearing ability, and recommending or providing a hearing aid, and adjusting it for the patient. However, modern hearing aids have more features and are more tech-oriented. Hearing aids can link via Bluetooth to a smartphone, which allows the wearer to fine-tune it. They can also be used to answer calls, listen to music, and can even be used in noisy environments. Therefore, audiologists have to deal now with tech-savvy customers, who expect much more than the hearing aids their grandfathers used, which were large, clumsy, and had a poor fit. Another problem with hearing aids is a social stigma, which can be prevented with modern hearing aids, which are almost invisible. Some even have artificial intelligence, which can detect a noisy environment and adapt themselves to it, orienting the microphone sensitivity to listen to conversations.
